So last night, My face had swelled up nice, and the pressure was so bad, that it felt like the teeth would just pop out of my head. The pressure got so bad that it pushed a bubble of skin off the surface of my gums, that was filled with blood and infection. During the night it got worse, the the point where I ran out of vicodin, nyquil, and a bottle of advil that I got to keep from taking all the vicodin. I was completely out of medication. I was so tired, yet in such pain that I couldn't help but be wide awake. I would try not to move, because that would only make the bubble start to grow, and pulse, and hurt more. I was up all night.
This morning I discussed my options with my wife. I had already gone back to the ER yesterday, and they wouldn't even see me. I was thinking of just driving to the dentist, and waiting for him to open and pleading my case. So after I dropped my wife off at work, I drove the the dentist to look for office hours, but it wasn't posted. So I drove to the ER again. They didn't want to deal with me, but I have always had a way of convincing people to see things my way. Not sure if it's charm or pity or a combination, but it works more often than not.
so they check my vitals first, and the nurse can't get a read on my blood pressure. She must've tried to take it like five times, before she gave up. I told her all the pressure was in my mouth, and to check there. She didn't have a sense of humor, and was not a delightful person, but she knew her job at least. The doctor, first gave me a shot of some anti-inflamatory drug, and then had me lift my top lip to expose the Gum Bubble. She treated it with a topical numbing agent and then got a needle of novacaine or one of the other "caines", and started to inject it into the bubble, which was the most painful thing I have ever been through. Worse than my kidney stones, even. After about a minute of adding liquid to a place with no more room for anything, and the pain of that, she took a 10-gauge hollow needle and poked into the bubble. She then proceeded to squeeze the infection out of my gums, for the next 5 minutes, until nothing but blood would come out. I got light headed.
I then stumbled to a sink to wash the blood taste of the infection out of my mouth. When I sat down again, I felt like I had just main-lined morphine, because all the pressure, and pain were just lifted away. The nurse then gave me a shot of Anti-biotics in my ass, and sent me home.
Now that I have had a few minutes to look back, I feel two things. I feel all the medicine that I took, but had no effect, that is still in my system, and I feel light headed from that. The second thing I feel is very hungry, to the point that my stomach aches for something in it. I've only been able to force a bit of food down as pain allowed, and it's been over a day since I've had anything larger than a cracker.
So I feel better for now, and I'm going to try and take a nap, and maybe eat something light.
thanks for reading.
