I am such a nerd. I picked up the Serenity movie on DVD today and have already watched it twice normally, once with the commentary track, all of the extras, all of the extras with commentary, and found the easter egg on the DVD. All in all it was a good way to blow an entire day. The sad part is that I am going to be seeing it at least two more times (have a viewing party Friday night and then another one on Saturday afternoon). I am such a nerd.
So this weekend is Christmas (or Winter Solstice or Yuleor Saturnalia depending on your religious stint). I will be working Christmas day so I get to miss out on the dinners and sitting around with friends. On top of that I just learned that two of the people who are suppose to be working with me were promised the day off so there will only be two of us there. I love my job.
I don't normally keep with traditions for Christmas, except one. It became a tradition pretty much by accident because of my parents. For whatever bizarre reason my parents took to buying me a Hickory Farm gift set every single year since 1991. This continued until my mom passed away a few years back. I don't know why but the year my mom passed I was sitting around my house during the holidays trying to figure out what was missing. I then realized my yearly gift set wasn't there. I didn't really think about it at first, but as it got closer to Christmas I started wanting it more and more. I finally broke down and went out and bought one, and have done so every year since. Now the part of this story that has always cracked me up is that whether my parents bought it or I have bought it, I have normally never eaten the entire thing. I get about half way through and can't even look at it any more and throw it away. It is strange the things we get attached to.
So what traditions do you have for the holidays?
