So I was setting around today enjoying my day off, when suddenly I started feeling a pressure in my lower right back. At first I thought I had simply slept wrong and had tweaked a muscle or something along those lines. As the day continued the pain began to increase. Finally it got to the point that I couldn't handle it any more and headed into the emergency room. By the time I got there I was pretty close to tears.
The ladies in the ER took pity on me immediately and ushered me in to the first available room (the others in the waiting area did not look very happy). I wasn't in the room for more than a couple of minutes (had just had my IV put in) when I was wisked away for a CAT scan. I was then taken back to the room hooked up to my IV and given a pain killer. I laid there for another three hours because apparently the two radiologist on duty each thought the other was looking at my film.
Once everything was cleared up the doctor informed me that I had a kidney stone that was about 2mm (hard to believe something that small can cause that much pain) and that it was currently lodged in the duct leading from the kidney to the bladder. I was told to drink lots of fluids and that it should pass normally. I was given a couple of pills to take over the next couple of days.
That was the good news. The bad news is that during my CAT scan it was discovered that my gallbladder is full of gallstones. The doctor informed me that it wasnn't some that he needed to admit me for, but that some time in the next year I will need to look at having my gallbladder removed. Yay me. So I have started researching the surgery to see what is involved.
My body is defective, and the warrenty has run out.
