Addictions...
Earlier today I began to think about my routine. I have a different routine for each day, but they all have a lot of similarities. My routines change all the time, but often so insignificantly that I hardly notice. In the spring there are new things like watching baseball games, going for more walks and minor changes like that, but they just become part of the routine. When those things go, other things take their place and things don't really seem too different.
So I began to analyze the routines deeper and broke it down to each day. What's constant with each day? I'm not taking about eating, sleeping, showering, brushing, etc. I'm taking about things that I don't HAVE to do, but feel like I need to do. I'm taking about habits, chemical dependencies, emotional needs. I'm taking about addictions.
For example in the course of a 24 hour period, I NEED the following things to function:
-caffeine (my head hurts if I go about 16 hours without it.)
-orgasm (if I can't get in at least 1 of these a day I'm pretty uptight)
-music (I need to listen to a few songs a day- a lot of times music helps me think)
-SG (I have to check in at least once a day, even if I only have 5 minutes, plus I'm always anxious to see if one of my friend's sets go up!)
-ESPN.com (see previous item)
-myspace (I just joined it a month ago, and although it doesn't hold a candle to SG, it's quickly become another must do activity each day)
-check my email (This is no surprise in this day and age.)
-daydream & quiet alone time (If I don't have a few minutes to veg out each day I can be downright ornery.)
-IM (I gotta check my instant messenger everyday, see who's out there, and subsequently do some chatting.)
-Television (I have to watch one thing a day, I don't even know why anymore.)
-Reading material (I have to read something, anything in the course of a day. I don't care if it's a newspaper, magazine, book, or anything else. Reading makes my mind feel like its working.)
-Eclipse Mints (I can't get through a day without popping these in intermittently... It's hard work being a kissing bandit )
That's all I can think of for now. What are some of your daily addictions?
