The first thing I want to write about is the poetry slam I checked out on Friday night. It was such a great time. It was the finals for this year and 10 talented poets took the stage and performed with the top 4 making the first ever Buffalo poetry slam team that will compete against teams from all over the world in the 2006 National Poetry Slam in Austin, Texas in early August.
Performing before the competition as a bit of a warm up was the 2 time international world poetry slam champion Buddy Wakefield www.buddywakefield.com. I can hardly explain to you how talented he is and how awesome the poetry/performance of Mr. Wakefield is. His energy and sense of humor are both extarordinary.
Watching these creative individuals entertain and expose themselves to 250 people including myself for 3 hours was awe inspiring. It was standing room only at the art museum. There were people of all ages, all types, all colors, all enjoying the intimate portraits these poets painted with their words. These slams are so much fun to attend. In case any of you are local and interested, the next one takes place at The Albright Knox art musuem Friday evening August 5th I believe.
For those of you who are myspace users, I started a poetry group on myspace.

It doesn't have to be local (Buffalo area) people only. It's open to anyone who has a myspace account and is 18 and over (due to the possibility of mature language or graphic poetry). It's there to discuss poetry, poets, post your favorites, post your own work, etc. As moderator I will attempt to keep things positive and comfy. So if you like poetry, are a little curious or just want to expose yourself to the art of the word, feel free to join the group and participate. Hey, if you know other people who may be interested, feel free to spread the word.
I'd like to discuss playing a softball game today (we won 23-3), playing tennis and having soccer practice in one nice tiring Sunday, my love for ice cream and where it comes from, and my philosophy on cooking but boy am I tired. Those things will have to wait a day or two, I think I'm going to bed.
