all american blog! (7-4)
Happy 4th of July everyone!
Random thoughts and updates:
-I just finished watching the hot dog eating contest on television. Kobyashi defended his title and broke his own world record eating 53 and 3 quarter hot dogs and rolls in 12 minutes! Just watching that made me not want to eat hot dogs for a while. The funny part is that someone outside was grilling hot dogs while I watched the competition, so as I saw people devouring them like crazy people, I was smelling them too! It's smell-a-vision!
-Is it me or is Law and Order on TV all the time? and furthermore, why can't I stop watching it? I never really watched the show until a few weeks ago, but damn is it addicting. I guess I've always been a fan of a good crime show, you know like Magnum P.I., Hawaii 5-O or Miami Vice. Okay, well maybe those aren't the greatest shows, but hey it doesn't mean my TV crime show tastes can't evolve.
-Warning sports alert: The Buffalo Sabres have already lost Jay McKee and Mike Grier and the free agency period is only a few days old. I would be totally grumpy with this lack of activity on our end to not only try to keep our guys but also to find a replacement BUT last year we did absolutely nothing and we all complained. Then GM Darcy Regier signed Teppo and traded for Toni Lydman and those were excellent moves. So despite being a little unnerved by the current activity or lack thereof, I will withhold judgement until the season gets ready to begin. "To-day for thee, and to-morrow for me." - Cervantes (Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra)
-Since I'm getting holiday pay right now to stay home and type in my blog, does that make me a professional blog writer?
-On Friday there's another Nickel City Poetry Slam at the Albright Knox Art Museum. This is the first one there will actually be a charge for ($12), but this is the finals. The 8 previous monthly winners will return and battle to see who gets to represent Buffalo in the annual nationals in Texas in the near future. So with 8 winning poets there, the quality of poetry will be excellent, plus the 3-time National Champion Buddy Wakefield will make an appearance and perform some of his award winning poetry prior to the slam. If you like poetry or have any curiousity about poetry, this is a must see event. It takes place at 7pm, Friday night at the Albright Knox. Entrance to the museum is free on Friday evenings but like I mentioned, it will cost $12 to see the slam. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.
I will now leave you with a few pics from my recent trip to a cottage on the lake. The BBQ was delicious and the air was sweet. The water and the scene were so serene. It was exactly what I needed.

Now I'm just waiting for the rain clouds to depart so I can go outside and play!
