check out ursulahodel one morning ursula was having breakfast at the old sant ambroeus uptown (where we shall return) and we're talking about having guests in town and i tell about how my brother matthew has given me grief about sending my laundry out. "i think you should do your own laundry," he says, like it's a socialist issue.. and doing washing is necessarily demeaning.....

I apologize for not responding more promptly. Things have been hectic. I take it you are into collage art. Here are a few people I find interesting. Lynn Whipple (and John Whipple) is here http://www.whippleart.com/
Brad Thomas is here http://www.bradthomas.net/
I need to put more of my blocks up, which are the collage pieces. I have tons. I need to do something with them.
As for laundry, I just went to do mine. I hate it. I will put it off to the very last minute. I had the great honor of being the last person remaining, waiting for my comforter to finish drying. The little Korean man behind the counter kept giving me dirty looks, but hey, I just gave him $30 bucks. I'm not going home with a wet bedspread. It became a bit of a battle of wills. He would make me as uncomfortable as he could to get me out and I would ignore him and keep folding my clothes.
The laundry mat is a weird place. No one ever talks. Or if they do, its some quick remark like, "I havent put in the dryer sheets yet." (unless you get one full of kids)
But at least you can think. Especially, with the accompanying white noise of the dryers.

so; one time beth and i were watching this fashion show and some old eurotrash commentator is contextualising whoever's collection it is in terms of the 'd.j.'
"see," he says, " it is like the dj. it is about mixing. it is about layering. it is about mixing."
so; now sometimes i put on my frog accent when i'm talking with beth (beth's my wife...

so i have conceived this notion of 'trash art'. and i think one of the important aspects of trash art is that the trash artist is prepared to cede control, to throw away his labor for nothing, if that is what it takes to get stuff done. then fuck it i'll do it for nothing. 'cos i don't have no money. i got born poor....

thorstein veblen built upon mark and darwin and, i'm guessing, william james (but here my scholarship sort of weak) a counter-intuitive model of human enterprise and theory of value (oh ain't that what counter culture is all about? "survival cancels programming" ooo aaa ooo aaa :oooaaasmile
ivan illich, in the tradition of veblen (but how conciously i'm not sure... must read more... must read more puke puke puke ) located more specifically...
