Hello SGLand,
I've decided to try to be a bit more active on the site as up till now I've basically done very little, so I'm going to attempt a Blog Homework.
So I live in Northern Ireland, and back in 2004-2005ish (somewhere around that time, I don't remember the exact year and I think it might have been during the summer, but not 100% certain) my parents decided to take me and younger sister for a weekend trip down to Dublin. So the plan was to go down on Friday and then return on Sunday. Before this, we had rarely been down to Dublin and weren't that familar with the city.
So we took the train down and made our way to the hotel we'd booked. I was about eight or nine and my sister about six or seven then, so there was only one room booked for all four of us. I'm not sure what the expected sleeping plan was but there was only one double bed and a pull-out sofa bed in the room. It was decided that my parents would take the double bed and my sister would take the sofa bed. We then had to get a portable single bed rolled into the room, tucked at the foot of the sofa for myself to sleep on. So there was the four of us sharing one room with slightly less than desirable sleeping arrangements.
So, after we got the room arrangements sorted out we decided to take a walk around the city to try and familarize ourselves with it. But even though it started out as a dry day, the classic Irish weather kicked in and just as we were leaving the hotel, it was pouring rain. Rather than waiting for it to die down a little, we started wandering around Dublin trying to find where all the shops were. We managed to find a book shop that sold Marvel books and a DVD store. We probably found a few others as well, but I was only interested in comics and DVDs at the time so I didn't pay the rest any attention.
After a bit of shopping around for a few hours, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and then decided to call it a night. The four of us settled down for the night (and before going to sleep, I tried to talk my parents into letting us watch a spider themed horror film, why I tried to do this before bed I do not know).
The next day, my parents decided to cut the weekend trip short and we were going home that day as they didn't like all of cramped into one room together. Thinking about it, I'm not really sure what they expected as they must have booked it that way. I think they also didn't want to spend a full day walking around in the rain. So we packed up our bags, checked out of the hotel and headed to the train station and caught the train home.
So that pretty much wraps up. As I was writing this, I realize that most people might not consider this a disastrous trip as the only bad things about it amount to four people sharing a room and bad weather, it's more a trip that didn't go exactly as planned. But in comparison to the trips and holidays taken in the years after it, it was the worst.
So yeah, this is my first attempt at a Blog Homework. I'm not really sure how to end this, so I guess if you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed reading.
