Sitting home watching The Young Ones. Sheer genius through anarchy. Why is it that the Brits produce such disjointed, intuitive brilliance on television? American tv has its moments too, but there really is just no comparison in terms of what is societally allowed within the public domain and at public expense. I mean, compare the BBC to PBS. BBC has what, 4 channels in Britain? Plus the international news service, BBC World? And it is significantly underwritten by the government, no? Whereas, here in the US, the current government is trying to cut out funding for PBS. The only vaguely radical programming seems to be Jon Stewart on Comedy Central, and he only has 1 million viewers. How many people live in the US, and only 1 million bother to watch something vaguely intellectually stimulating?
Ah, i've worked myself into a rant. but that's culture. can't win against the latent societal subconscious, it seems. Interesting, though, at some level. but does it even matter? Does anyone care? Can it be changed for the better, or are we stuck riding the wave in denial? Fuck it, i'll leave it for the pundits.
