Well so much for running that biathlon this morning. I was about to eat an awesome carbo loaded dinner last night when the call came in for an atv certified military police officer. Well that would be me so I went out to this call which was for a person who had drowned.
The story behind that from what i could gather was that the man had been out in his boat when the weather took a turn for the worse. His boat was most likely sunk by the rough ocean conditions. We were alerted to his situation because he popped flares near our flight line from his little yellow life raft and we thought it was some one being a dick and playing a prank. When the first unit arrived on scene however they found the man fighting to hold onto some rocks on the edge of the beach. The waters were insanely rough and the first unit was just barely out of arms reach of the man.
The next units to arrive were crash fire rescue and two of them dove into the waters and actually grabbed hold of the man. They began to swim in when a big wave crashed into them. the two crash fire rescue guys resurfaced but not the victim. From that point on there was no visual of him and he was assumed dead.
Enter me on my atv i was assigned the task of patroling the beach for any signs of a corpse. I was out there for about 2 and a half hourse looking out into some of the roughest water I've ever seen. I was getting rained on and having mass amounts of sand blown in my face. Unfortunately nothing turned up and I had to leave with the dissapointment of not even being able to give the guy back to his family.
So needless to say after such a long crazy night running the biathlon today was just not an option anymore. I still hope the body turns up for the sake of the family and that there werent other on the boat he was originally on.
