My girlfriend just got a set of vegitarian / vegan pamphlets in the mail today. I've only been brave enough to read about the "Free Range Egg Myth" so far. I rarely eat meat, but I do eat a fair amount of cheese, some eggs, and bits of other dairy (in deserts, etc). What products I do eat have always been at least free-range, and typically also organic.
I don't feel that there is anything inherently wrong with using animal products, but I do feel like the animals should be treated in the most respectful way possible. As poor as I am I wouldn't mind paying more money to ensure the animals are treated well. I wish there was some way (other than ambiguous "free range" labels) to indicate what products to buy.

But as for free range... I would never trust those labels unless I went to the farm itself. And don't trust someone else to do quality checks... even PCC doesn't always check out the "free range" products that they sell.
