So on Friday night, I went to a show for the first time since seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds during their "No More Shall We Part" tour, around 2002. My friend Amanda (who's a senior in high school, and *ten* years younger than me!) called me up and asked if I wanted to go see some bands at a local coffee shop, and I was like, "sure...". I thought it would be all lame and acoustic, but it was awesome! It was a lot of screaming and good music, and somehow they even managed to get some crowd surfing in there, in the tiny little coffee shop. It was packed full of people, and I'm pretty sure I was like the oldest one there, but nobody noticed or cared. Actually, tons of people were talking to me, which was really cool and never happened back when i used to go to little shows in high school.
I met a really nice guy who is also going to be apprenticing and who shares my interest in traditional tattoos, and we made a deal to tattoo eachother when it came time for us to practice. He had an awesome pirate ship on his shin that he designed himself, which I'm envious of. He also turned out to be the singer for this really good band, Lion of the North. I guess they play in Chicago pretty often. Oh, and he also pressured me into naming my new Zippo, which features a traditional girl-on-bomb pinup tattoo design. I'm like, "uhhhh... okay, um, Sally, I guess. So my Zippo is Sally now. sexy.
Also, the band Horrormones gave a shout out to Buffy the Vampire Slayer before their show, which was so incredibly cool. Since I love Buffy, and they were totally sincere about the shout-out. The singer, Nate, is as much of a Buffy geek as I am... we both own (and listen to!) the soundtrack for the musical episode of Buffy. Also, he is seriously the best dancer and showman I've ever seen. He's fucking crazy.
Anyway, I met tons of people and it was really fun. There were five bands, and it lasted from six until almost midnight. I got home and was happy and no longer felt like a trapped zombie housewife. I miss having my own friends and doing stuff and going out.
I'm also in a good mood because I get to go to work at Bluebird tomorrow, AND I get to have my left forearm tattoo finished and colored on Wednesday. I'm so terrified of disappointing Drew. I just want to make him really happy that he hired me! I swear, it's the worst feeling when he's not happy with me, when seriously all I want to do in the world is please him.

Yeah, I know, but it's really hard. He *is* my boss, and also... I'm not the only one who's terrified of displeasing him. He can be very intimidating. I just do the best I can at whatever I can, and that's about all anyone can do. I've realized that I've been there about six weeks now... so pretty secure, huh?

Sounds like you had a great time, hug!
