Last Friday two of my friends dragged me out of the house while my wife has been away on vacation. My buddies Zeke and Show took me to this benefit concert for Dax. It was a concert put on by Anticon Records, My buddy Zeke was telling me how i would enjoy it, how it was underground hip-hop, so i said sure why not, i could use a little getting out of the house time.
So we headed up to SF, By the way the show was at the Bottom of the Hill, and suprisingly enough i had never been to that venue before. So we take an alternate route to Bay, and well got lost on the way. so a normal 1-1/2 drive took us more like 2 hours but no big. So we get to the club and cut our way to the front of the line, don't ask me how, all i know is we went straight to the front, i think t had something to do with fact Zeke had purchased tickets online.
Let me say, it was a great night and a great concert. I wouldn't call the show a hip-hop show, but it had a wide variety of musicians playing and all were great, Dosh came out and played a great set, passage was awesome, with his gameboy beats and his disc man. There was a special guest, but they refused to tell the crowd their name, then jel came out and was also great. But i have to say Why? was incredible, these guys are awesome. They remind me a lot of Les Savy Fav, and my buddy Zeke says they remind him of Pavement (now don't get me wrong they sound nothing like pavement, but the feel you get is they are exploring the same concepts). I got hammered and enjoyed some great music so i was very happy, plus it was the first time i ever had microwave popcorn at a concert.
Well that was last Friday. This friday and saturday are also going to be good for some music in the bay area, the moggs are playing tonight at the Hemlock in San Francisco, it will be their record release, everyone should check them out. And tomorrow one of my favorite bands babyland will be playing at 924 Gilman St. in Berkeley. And if you like to booze Pyramid Brewing Company is right accross the street from the Gilman, plus babyland is definitly worth the $7 entrance fee to the show.
I personally won't be able to make either show, but i encourage all to go to both, they are both great bands.

I most certainly do, and Greg Dulli's new band the Twilight Singers. in fact Dulli has just released a new album Amber Headlights. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but i have heard a few tracks from it, sounds good to me.
