America's emotions...
...Americans are socialized to suppress emotions. Boys are told to be tough and not to cry. They are taught not to talk about their feelings and sensitivities; theses are supposed signs of weakness that are intolerable in the American society. It is no wonder that when these boys grow up and are expected to take on a marital partner they often have difficulty conveying how they feel towards their significant other. In the work place, it seems paradoxical that we are constitutionally granted the freedom of speech but can be disciplined by the employer for speaking how they feel about a coworker if it is negative sentiment.
Pascal's heart...
...Pascal states that the heart has its reasons, which reason knows nothing of. Pascal implies that feeling, emotionally speaking, is the opposition of reason. This statement would align with the theory of all things having an opposite. Without feeling to challenge reason significant truths might have gone undiscovered. Anomalies exist in the universe that defy all reason and at times have only had truth discovered to them after a gut feeling has been followed. Feelings offer a direction for us to point investigations in when reason lands us nowhere but into doubt.
