Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others
This was the name of the musical that I went to at the Lowry, with a couple of mates. Yep, a Smiths musical, which from the reviews seemed like it should be fun.
We were sat on "bar stool" seats in the theatre, which means our feet didn't touch the ground.
Anyway, on with the fun. What fun, there wasn't any-at least, the musical was completely lacking in humour, which seemed a bit of an oversight for a musical about Morrisey.
Despite that, I really enjoyed the performance; the singing and musicianship were excellent (the songs were played by a String Quartetin classical, flamenco and gospel style) and the acting and visuals were surreal and engaging. I think they may have been vaguely related to events in Morriseys life, or lyrics, but I don't know enough about him to be certain. I have a feeling the audience were slightly perplexed by the performance; the cast were well received, but at the end I was still trying to work the playout and manage my preconceived notions of its style in comparison with the reality.
