Monday again, seriously, how...
Anyways, so one of the things thats happened since I was last around here, As of late late 2018, I'm now a Manager.
Somehow, go figure right.
Actually I think I have changed rolls and jobs a few times since here last. I was in an finished art studio before, then moved into a different printing company, back on the floor, but in Large Format printing, external signage, car wraps. point of sale stuff, all interesting and cool actually, but a total departure from what I had done before.
Then, after having got to grips with the different aspect of the print and design industry i've been in for the last 20 plus years, I got approached on linked in by another company in October/November 2018.
They were established with clients for over 10 years already, however, they were currently just an office in Sydney, with production in Melbourne as well as outsourcing other production.
The plan they had, was to move and increase production in Sydney, bringing everything in house to a new premises, including relocation the Sydney offices all to the same location too.
My role now is Print/Production Manager. This also include the decommission of the Melbourne plant, relocation production equipment to Sydney, recommissioning and getting production back up. After running the Melbourne plant up till Christmas shut down, as leading up to xmas with most Xmas breaks is a busy time, especially when a majority of clients are retail, and need work ready to install for mark down sales etc.
Needless to say, Last Xmas/New Year break was pretty intense. Also added to that, I had to find a team of new guys to lead in Sydney on the production floor.
It's been very overwhelming, and crazy, and some days my stomach was churning from nerves, and worry of the mountain of work that this new role entailed. Thankfully, I'm emerging from the other side, having found a team of guys I can depend on and have high standards, and a crash course in a lot of things I never had to worry about before, procurement, scheduling and the like, and dispatching on varied services always making sure clients and installers receive what they need from us on time.
There have been some interesting and funny jobs come through, one memorable one was for 420 day. We were commissioned to help make a 9meter high 'pot' plant for a demonstration/art installation by a gorilla artists group in support of legalising pot in Australia, the thing was massive and took a decent size truck to cart all the pieces into the city in the early hours of the morning to be set up in Martin place.
Unfortunately a few of the guys that set up the installation got arrested and the council soon removed it, but it was a fun project non the less, and completely different to our normal high end clients 'sensible' work.
If you are out and about in the Sydney or Melbourne CBD, (Or a lot of the other major shopping centres across Australia) no doubt, you will see a lot of my work regularly on some pretty well known business, anything from hoarding, window campaigns including props etc, to inside the shops right in your face convincing you to buy things you didn't even know you wanted.
Anyways, It's another Monday, I better get back to it hey.
