On whim the other night I applied for a pharmacist position and the company I really wanted to work for but there were never any openings. It's a grocery chain called Publix. I have died to work there for so long because I decided to become a pharmacist because of the way I felt while working as a tech at Albertson's Pharmacy (another grocery chain). It's small, no drive thrus, people are patient because they are there to grocery shop anyhow, hours are awesome, and the stress level is minute compared to chain retail.
Now, I just got placed at an AWESOME store within my company. No drive thru, low volume, and the people are awesome. I just really dislike the company. They put their employees in the shithole as far as their concern for us goes. Profits first, then the patient, then the store, metrics, bs, then, at the bottom, me. The "slave" as I affectionately call it. I just feel like they lost sight of what pharmacy is all about. And though my store is super awesome, how long will I be there? Forever? I doubt it. But the company will always be there. Money-hungry, not caring about me.
Publix seems to really care about its employees. The hours are shorter, the stress is lower, plus you get all major holidays off (whatwhat!!!).
Yesterday I got a call from Publix asking me to interview. I am interviewing tomorrow at 930am. I am so fucking nervous of them accepting me and wanting me to work for them, but cutting ties with a company I've been with for 5 years and that has given me the store I wanted. I feel like they will think I am ungrateful. I'm not. I just feel like my destiny is outside of where I am....

Guuuuurl, you got this!!! And my degree will be in Biology. The further along in it I go, the more I know it's for me. Science has always been my passion, and although I have no immediate plans to use my degree, it's purely because I just don't know what direction I want to go in with it. It just feels good to finally know where I want to go.

Good luck on the interview, I guess it's about now. 5 years was a good run with the current company, it's longer than I've ever worked at one place.
