Day 2 in LA...
This is the only day that Barry has off, so I've really been looking forward to hanging out with him. We've been friends for about 17 years now. Easily one of funniest, smartest people I've ever met. A stand up comic and cartoonist, he's now writing for a successful 'reality' show (yes, they have writers), married to a great woman, Janet (also a comic and actress with a series on Bravo this Fall) and has an unbelievable son, Preston. I miss having Barry in my vicinity.
We hung out at Rockaway Records on Glendale, went to the Wacko gallery, had a good heart to heart over some decent tacos. Then, we went to this amazing Thai massage place in Koreatown...just straight massage, no funny business. Shit, I don't have their card on me, but when I dig it up, I'll post their info. A completely nondescript place, no sign or anything. It was amazing. This little Thai lady beat the hell out of me for an hour for only $25. You've gotta go.
By the time we got done doing all our hanging, it was kind of late to hook up with the SGLA crowd for the pirate flick, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I get to the theater, and it's sold out! Alright, I'll buy a ticket for the next movie starting (the Hulk) and sneak in. Shit! The 16-year old AMC gestapo are guarding the door. And they aren't leaving. Well, I'll watch the Hulk and catch up with them afterward....
Then, the aftermath of the Thai massage and staying in a house with a 10-month old baby began to take it's toll. I started falling asleep during the damn movie. Even the action movie-requisite exploding helicopters couldn't wake me enough to make me follow the "plot." But I made it to the end, and met with a few SGLA folk afterward. Everyone was really nice (Hiya Maxx, POSTOP, Alice and pinup!!). I felt lame having to bail out early, but I didn't want to disrupt Barry & Janet's house by coming in at all hours, waking the baby. Plus...erm...I kind of felt like I missed the earlier bonding at Islands and was kinda an interloper. Oh well. Next Time! I promise I'm not a psycho, guys! Well, not a dangerous one, at least!
Alright, Day 3...and I just finished having lunch and goofoff-ery with my pal Harriet. Works for Universal, promoting the damn movie I saw last night. "Um, it was...not bad"
