Worked all day today...and when I say all day, mean ALL DAY. I was in a booth selling beer tickets at the jumbo 4th of July celebration downtown, from 10 a.m. til 11 p.m. For most of the day, I was joined by 4 teenage volunteers (2 boys, 2 girls). Goofy, high-spirited kids still working out their social graces. Things got perilous when they started pounding the Red Bulls, and the games of grabass started interfering with their ability to sell tickets to the beer-anxious crowd. But it was still kind of charming.
Music was provided by (among others) San Jose garage-rock legends the Syndicate of Sound, San Jose Taiko, and the great Lady Bo.
And in the end, Neil Diamond came to America, Ray Charles got misty over the amber waves of grain (pictured at left), and the momentary chandeliers left only octopus-like ashen trails to remind you that they were ever there.

Remember, the duck may be somebody's mother.

I find myself getting incredibly annoyed at teenagers now. I'm only 22 so I know it's dumb but I watch them and can't believe that I was ever like that. Kids these days.........
