Part 1 - In the Shallow Depths of Purgatory
"Chris, do you remember when you were a kid and you use to have such vivid dreams? One time, you woke up so frightened by a nightmare, you were so convinced that it was real... that even I began to believe. And I was trying to reassure you that everything was okay, but to be honest, even I was afraid. Not just for you, but for all of us. Do you remember that? Do you remember that dream?" ALL turned grey, and blue, and black - a bruised world, in which every character played a role in Existence. We were living tombs, alive and dead in the same breath. Faceless and still. All so close and all apart. Nameless tombstones. Planted in the soil.
(we eat off the land all our lives, and then when we die the land eats all of us, each burial plot a mouth)
Part 2- We Breathe Underwater
Spash. Splashes. Splashing. We were 3 to 4 feet deep in a public fountain. We were all kids again, the 3 of us and our parents. All clothed in the bright colors of the 80's. Our dad with his thick mustache, at helm, shared a secret with us. "If you go under the water, you will see the sea." All of us turned towards him with bright 80's smiles and soon all of us turned down into the water. 4 feet became 40, and we were under the sea! And we could see. Giant starfish waved to us with 5 arms. Octopi danced a deep sea waltz. Rays of light shooting down into the depths like a searchlight turned upside down and placed above the clouds. Even my parents were children under the water. Because they saw what we saw.
- Two excerpts from my upcoming zine. The Bell Curve.
