Last night met muirtach at The Green Room to hear our friends The Atomiks play.

Plusses: A good crowd, lots of friends there, and the Atomiks rocked. smile smile smile

Minuses: The Guiness tap wasn't working, and The Green Room really needs to finish building their Men's room. frown frown

Overall: You do the math!

once you are enlightened, you live that way as an example for others to follow, not so that you worry yourself about others' enlightenment.
tryphyna:
well, that would be one smile left. so, it was pretty darn good!

Went to see Dick Dale (who played the electric guitar track on "Pulp Fiction") last Friday night. At a nice, small, intimate venue too: there were not more than 100 of us in the audience, in a curtained off corner of the Crystal Bay Club at Lake Tahoe. He entered from the back, and began playing about as far from me as my computer monitor...

It's been a while, hasn't it? This is my first entry since getting back from Ireland. Had a grand time there: drank lots of Guinness and lots of Smithwick's, played in a couple of mighty sessions, and wound up with a brief spot on Irish national radio (RTE Radio 1's Ceili House program). biggrin

Went to see the Vandals play this last weekend. A high-energy show,...

Thanks for the comments. I do like really old Ford cars too!

What is with people that think mace and stuff like that is cool???
drchaos:
I dunno. What was cool, though, was the way people helped each other get outside to clean air.

In contrast to last week, this week was crazy, but pretty good. Rehearsal (Irish band) Monday evening, with pints at the bar afterwards. smile Rehearsal (Middle-Eastern band) Tuesday, wine during. Eileen Ivers concert Wednesday; got to meet her, then went for pints afterwards (Just ourselves, we'd invited Eileen and her band, but they wanted to eat dinner at their hotel first --- imagine that! shocked) Rehearsal...

Funny, I had two college friends who dated for a long time and then broke up. He started dating a girl that looked JUST LIKE his ex girlfriend for a couple years. Then they broke up and he got back together with his original girl...I hope they stay together!

I really hate the initial dating part of relationships. I like things better when you are past the awkward getting to know each other stage. Hopefully I'll be past that point soon with this new guy.

Good luck with the young punk maybe girlfriend-to-be!

you have Blondie listed as one of your favorite bands...

hence, you should join the SUICIDE GIRLS BLONDIE GROUP

Yesterday and today, the Waterfall Fire was burning about a mile or so from where I work in Carson City. Our office has not been in any direct danger (as of yet), but being downwind we've gotten a lot of smoke. News reports this evening say it has burned 7100 acres so far, destroyed at least 20 homes and 2 businesses, and is still completely...

drchaos:
Well, they've gotten the fire contained and mostly put out, which is good. The entire hilside west of Carson City has been burned black. I picked up my car Monday morning, undamaged but reeking of smoke, and I got a face full of ashes when I turned on the air. puke Otherwise, things look like they're getting back to normal.

Just got up at gawdawful-early in the morning so I could call Ireland while it's morning there, but now it's all set: I know I'll have a place to stay when I visit Clonmel for the music festival there at the end of next month. smile

Meanwhile, Les Yeux Noirs played in Wingfield Park in downtown Reno last night. Really wild gypsy / klezmer / eastern-european...

Berlin played a free show at Harrah's plaza here last Friday. Terri Nunn has gotta be nearly my age, but damn, that woman is hot! love
drchaos:
So...Berlin's concert last Fri. Then later that night hanging w/ friends at the Blue Lamp to hear our local rockabilly band, The Trainwrecks. An Independence day BBQ with some other friends from UNR's Psych department. On Wed. The 45's, Detroit Cobras, and the Rev. Horton Heat. Now I gotta rush out to listen to another local band: Push Box. Love that name! love So far, it's been a damn good July. Hope it keeps up (and hope I do smile ).

Push Box's lead singer, Georgia love love love , really really really ought to have pics up here. I wonder if I could talk her into it....

Yeah, I left my old car up in Chicago, traded it in on a new one. Just drove it down here! Now I have a whole new car to break in with road trips and making new memories!

Heading down to L.A. this weekend, to buy some musical instruments and equipment, and to visit some friends in Santa Barbara. I'll be at the Summer Solstice Music Festival on Saturday. Aside from that, I'm leaving things somewhat flexible, just to see what happens! smile
redheaddevil:
I really liked Champaign-Urbana, I always miss the great 4th of July fireworks display there, one of the best I have ever seen. Hope you had a good weekend trip!
drchaos:
It was a good trip, mostly. Bought a second hammered dulcimer. Saw some friends, old and new. Heard an absolutely kick-ass concert by a Chicago-area Irish band called Bohola. smile Missed seeing one of my best friends (the one in Santa Barbara), unfortunately, because she and her husband wound up going out of town to visit her parents. frown I'll have to try to get down there again, I guess.

What a week! Band rehearsals went well, but had to work Saturday. Now I can take this upcoming Friday and Monday off for a trip to L.A. Got some more pics up here, finally.
