Pictures from the disaster in New Orleans have made it into the papers and onto the telly over here. 
One of my colleagues from grad school has family down there; I must try to call to see how they're doing.

Day 11, Sligo: Drizzly to Rainy. Took it easy. Also took in W. B. Yeats exhibit in Yeats building. Bought a couple books. Read a bit. Practiced mandolin.
Day 12, Sligo: Beautifully sunny morning, best so far this trip. Afternoon has alternated sun and showers. Took in Yeats exhibits in Niland Gallery and Sligo County Museum.
