Yesterday and today, the Waterfall Fire was burning about a mile or so from where I work in Carson City. Our office has not been in any direct danger (as of yet), but being downwind we've gotten a lot of smoke. News reports this evening say it has burned 7100 acres so far, destroyed at least 20 homes and 2 businesses, and is still completely out of control. I'd brought my car into the dealer this morning, to have the AC looked at, but I had to leave it there this afternoon because by then the road had been closed. Caught a ride home to Reno with the guy in the next office, detouring east through Virginia City. Not a good day.

Well, they've gotten the fire contained and mostly put out, which is good. The entire hilside west of Carson City has been burned black. I picked up my car Monday morning, undamaged but reeking of smoke, and I got a face full of ashes when I turned on the air.
Otherwise, things look like they're getting back to normal.
