The trip down to So. Cal. was grand. Stayed with my bro most of the time. Also visited friends in L.A.; went to the La Brea tar pits; went to an extraordinary birthday party in an extraordinarily decorated house --- 7 Xmas trees, one room with sunburst clocks all over all the walls; checked out the folk music store and had a great Italian lunch in Claremont, and more of the same. On the way back, found a really great restaurant in Bishop called Whiskey Creek. The whole thing was major fun.
Then a week later we (my girlfriend and I) went with a couple of friends to San Francisco for the weekend. Saw her brother (visiting from Boston), had dinner and a few pints at Edinburgh Castle, then wandered over to see The Devil Makes Three, except the show was sold out.
Then met a random pair of dykes on the corner, who told us of this wonderful vegetarian restaurant a half a block away, which was exactly what we were looking for seeing as we were a) hungry and b) more-or-less all vegetarians. Would that happen anywhere besides SF? We love that city!
Next morning, went to see the Anselm Kiefer show at the SF MOMA. All I can say about that is Wo!
And the SF MOMA is such a cool museum. Must go back there.
