Well fuck I am bad at keeping a blog updated. I guess it is about time I played catch up.
@boston_ and I have been living in Melbourne now for just shy of 3 months now. It has been a crazy time with proposing, jobs, music and everything else in between. My fiancée and celebrated our 1 year anniversary about 3 weeks ago now and I can safely say it has been the best year of my life by far but I am not going to delve into that right now.
Since moving up here one of the biggest struggles has been to find a job and a while ago I found a commission only door knocking job which I accepted then resigned from before I even started due to their being their being no actual money from the business being paid to me. Since then I started work at Luna Park in St Kilda which was different. I have spent all of my working life working in bars and restaurants and to change from that to being a rides operator at Luna Park is very interesting. As a kid I kind of dreamed of working in a place like that because of loving the rides and atmosphere of the place. Of course now as a slightly more mature entity I know that a job is a job and despite how much of a dream the job may seem to be in the beginning, if you're not making any money from it, it is pointless. I'm not trying being cynical, but getting a $74 parking ticket due to a lack of staff parking on the first day when your pay for the week is only going to be $200, it definitely starts to ring alarm bells as to whether or not this just a waste of time. I only worked there for one shift and then I quit. Which I am not proud of, but hey, minimum wage is not worth the risk of a parking ticket every time you go to work.
While all of that was going on Crown Casino were processing an application and pretty much the day I quit they offered me a position there at a fucking great wage and parking was subsidised. Obviously I took it and I start work there next week. Which, funnily enough is my first week at University as well. I will be studying Audio Engineering, that is not really that important right now.
Enough about the boring work shit. I have put together a band, which was one of the main things I wanted to do up here. We're called Sleeping Birds (for those whom have Facebook you can find it on there). We're kind of like Something for Kate meets Smashing Pumpkins meets Sonic Youth meets Knapsack which pretty much just means 90s rock. I am so stoked that it came together that I am making music I want to make with other people who don't annoy me or have overly conflicting interests. For people who live in Melbourne our first show is on Sunday the 2nd of November at the Bendigo Hotel on Johnston Street in Collingwood. I'll post more details when it is more booked.
Finally @boston_ and I are flying to Sydney on Friday to go to Comic-con to meet William Shatner and also get out of the state for a bit. Also mainly William Shatner! I am not the biggest Trekkie but I am still very excited to meet James Kirk in the flesh as well as Denny Crane! I may be excited by my fiancée is way more excited than me so it will be an amazing trip. It is definitely a good way to celebrate our anniversary (despite it being three weeks later)
