I had a weekend full of ups and downs. The ups included dinner with my girlfriend on Friday night, then dinner and a movie with my Girlfriend and another couple that we have been friends with for years, on Saturday night. We went to see Sucker Punch. Its an awesome movie and I absolutely loved it. I have read a lot of reviews for the movie where it was only given 1 star.
Go fuck yourself. It was a great movie. Why didnt so many people get it? 90% of the movie happens inside Babydoll's mind. How is that so hard to understand?
Then Sunday was both good and bad. I drove to Watsonville to wrestle a tag team match for a promotion that I have never heard of. The drive was 4 hours, and finally got to the address, which turns out to be a bingo hall across a parking lot from a 100 year old cemetery. Im just thinking that as long as there is no zombie apocalypse today, we're good.
We get to the building a half hour ahead of schedule only to find out that on one knows who is in charge. No one seems to know who the promoter is. No idea who the booker is. No idea what the fuck is going on. To make things even more fun, 2/3rds of the people there dont speak english and my spanish sucks.
On the bright side, we are wrestling two guys that we have been in the ring with before so we should be able to put on something thats pretty damn good. We put the match together, but when its time to go out and perform, we get out there and find out the ring sucks, the ropes are loose. I have to do lot of stuff off the top so now Im just worried about getting through this and not dying. The match went fine, no fatalities, and the crowd loved it. So everyone is in a great mood until after the show.
The show ends and there are about 8 of us sitting around waiting to get paid. After about a half hour, we start asking whats going on. One of the guys in charge seems to be avoiding us. After about 45 mins, we start getting a little irritated and now that same guy in charge starts running around frantically. At about the 90 minute mark, we are all pissed and he is trying to tell us that "They lost the money"
He gives us this sob story about how the promoter disappeared with the cash from the show. We start telling him that we dont give a shit who pays us, but someone is paying us for this show. Im pretty sure he was thoroughly convinced that he was about to get his ass beat, because he starts paying us out of his own pocket.
By the time we got paid, it was about 10:30 at night. The show had been over for 2 hours. We still had a 4 hour drive home in front of us, and the one thing that couldve salavaged the night was if we had gotten to eat dinner at the Black Bear diner down the road. But by the time we had gotten there, we were 5 minutes too late and they had already closed. Gotta love Indy wrestling.
