I've been reading Geoffroi de Charny's treatise on Chivalry for about the 1000th time, and I can't seem to get enough of it. I feel disappointed the beliefs put forth by him and a few other notable persons aren't genuinely embraced today. I still open doors for women, carry groceries when possible, and basically am amazed at how wonderful and mysterious the entire idea of living your life to help and honor the most fair and noble of creatures as woman can be.
This site has made me see how diversity and opposition to the percieved norm can be so beautiful and scintillating at the same time. The pursuit of 'The One' to be true to still goes on for me. Relationships end, personalities clash,people drift apart. But I will forever have that idyllic pedestal before me to place every woman I meet and have the honor of getting to know upon. Even if in time that person chooses to move on, they will always have a place there. It is our noble and honored duty as men to worship, honor and in every way strive to protect, cherish, care for and shamelessly pursue those angelic beings who give us pause.
I learned a long time ago a verse that I still hold dear to my heart. You see my mother passed on when I was but four. I became obsessed with knights and chivalry very young after reading some of the Arthurian legends. I said I would always treat women as I would want my mother to be treated and that she was watching me and I would someday see her again, and I would want her proud of me. I still hold to that.
Woman was created from man's rib;
NOT his feet to be beneath him,
NOT his head to be superior,
But from his side to be *equal*
Beneath his arm to be *protected*
And close to his heart to be *cherished*!
