[Cause I'm a lazy person, this is yet again cross posted from my LJ

Ok, so the only thing I seem to be prepared to write on here are disaster stories from my life. Still, as long as everyone is amused, what's the harm in it? Anyway... on the the meaty bits.
Well, work has been kinda hectic recently. Stuff happening during the day and then this past week I had to work during the evening for 3 nights. The evening work is usually pretty scarce and not that involved. I prep some files, do a little setup, and then wait for them to call me the night of the work. When they are ready, I run some scripts, make sure everything is ok on my end, then roll over and go back to sleep. Not too bad on the whole, I just have to be home and ready to work. Pretty much what happens is that I have to change data on the computer after the associated hardware has been shut down. Sometimes this take awhile. Usually they shut all the stuff down at once and then I run my file, leaving them to bring all the equipment back up and test it. THey do some other upgrades on their own besides what I do.
However, the work I have been doing recently is with a new group and their equipment has some touchy software on it. Instead of being able to shut everything down at once, they have to do it once piece of equipment at a time. Basically, shut it down, let me make my changes, then bring it back up. The whole procss taking like twenty min or more. Problem is I have to make changes to over 20 bits of equipment in an evening. With me waiting on them, I basically sit on the phone from midnight until around 5am. And I have to be there, listening for the moment they are ready for me. Just basically frustrating.
Ok, all that was setup for the story.
Wednesday night, middle of me working, my internet dies. That's kinda a problem cause I have to be logged in remotely online to make these changes. I'm sitting there pulling my hair out as my roomie works towards putting back online. The good thing is that I had ordered DSL as a backup connection earlier and it had arrived that week. So we were back, at least temporarily, within an hour. Oddly, the people I was working with had major problems on their end, so they were trying to fix things themselves while I'm running around crazy. Of course, with their problems the work got delayed to the next night. Ug. That night finished. I got up Thursday to discover that the internet had crapped out again and nothing was working really at all. Whee, more stress. I ended up running to Starbucks and using thier HotSpot stuff so I could at least get *some* work done during the day. Thankfully my roomie got us up slightly so I could work that evening. Mind you, when I got on the conference call that evening, I only made two changes.. seeing as they had mega trouble again. So I pretty much twiddled my thumbs for 5 hours waiting on them. So with more delays, the work had to be pushed back to another night. All sorts of annoying, especially as I had a conference call the next morning I had to be up early for.
Gee, work can be such fun sometimes.
