Like all people in the first world with sedentary jobs I too fight the battle of the bulge. I actually started to make my physical fitness a priority about 8 months ago. I am lucky I have maintained a habit of going to the gym and practicing some degree of flexibility training. While I have decent strength I had neglected to do cardio and had a bad diet. I made the classical mistake , I can eat this tasty stuff and I will burn it off later at the gym.
I started by just adding 15 minutes of cardio to my gym days and 15 minutes of cardio to my non-gym days. The local cafe where I go grab my lunch to get away from the office offered a half and half combo meal. I can do soup and sandwich or soup and salad. I have decided to do soup and salad for lunch and cut the lemonade I used to get with my lunch. Now I get a soup , salad with chicken no dressing and a lemon wedge and accompany the meal with a nice glass of water. I have listened to the commonly known fact that if you feel hungry and you eat recently you are dehydrated not hungry. I have not changed any of my other meals and just made sure that I added more time at the gym on the elliptical machine and stretching. I am happy to report I have not really lost more then 5 pounds or so and that I have improved endurance.
I am happy to report that because it means that I was not in horrible shape and that I just need it to cut out some stuff to make sure that weight does not creep up on me. It has also made me appreciate all those people that were heavy or sedentary and have decided to start running. If you run a mile , a 5k , a half marathon or the full 26 miles. I solute you and you. If you have made efforts to turn your body around and truly change your diet for any reason . I applaud you.
I will update more later and make sure that I put more of my summer activities here. It has been good and I am trying to make the best of my weekends.
