Karma is a mother-fucking bad ass and I told her that every morning as she left for her opening shift at Starbucks. She'd roll her eyes most days since I worked second shift and was retreating back to the bed we shared in a cramped walk up in Peoria, Arizona once she'd left but the sentiment was just as true. I recently thought about her as I sat on the side of the road one morning after the belt snapped on my car. I am relatively satisfied with the outcome of a recent project so I'm not that upset because I feel it's just karma reaching out to even the playing field for being a little too prideful of my accomplishments. Today as much as then being humble keeps me on Karma's good side.
So it's McCain versus either Obama or The Clinton. Republicans are pragmatic and I never once doubted the man from Arizona as I learned back in '98 when he trounced my old boss Ed Ranger despite all of my best efforts to stop it. McCain easily won re-election to his third senate term in November of 1998, gaining 69 percent of the vote. We sat there election night shocked and celebrated well into the night that we managed 27 percent of the vote. I remember that Ranger loved motorcycles and was a complete political novice and had only recently returned from Mexico and in fact hired me over the phone. The campaign was most noteworthy because for the first time McCain took no "soft money" during the campaign. But still curiously raised $4.4 million for his bid, later explaining that he had needed it in case the tobacco companies or other Washington special interests mounted a strong effort against him. We often argued during that campaign that McCain was really more interested in running for president. After the sound beating he gave Ranger, McCain created a presidential exploratory committee the following month.
My history with the senator leads me to believe that he'd prefer to run against Obama than Hillary which is a mistake on his part because he can trounce her in a general election no matter what her pollsters tell her. Obama can beat McCain for the independents looking for change in the country's direction. That just leaves the Republican base that has never been a fan of him and won't have the motivation of Clinton hatred as an excuse to vote against his opponent. Frankly McCain better hope that Hillary can reverse the Obama momentum because she doesn't want it to come down to whoever can make a deal with Edwards. She has to wrap this up by the end of Tsunami Tuesday if she hopes to beat McCain because a divided convention will probably spell the end of the Democratic hopes for the White House.
Why do I love the Fine Living Channel and does anyone wonder whatever happened to The Masked Magician?
