One way that motorcylclists describe the performance of a motorcycle is to say whether or not it can get out of its own way, whether it has enough power to accelerate out of a tight spot. I find that I stand in my own way. Thing about pedagogy and culture is that you are trained to believe in invisible walls, that surround you and hopefully shunt you in productive directions. But it these invisible walls aren't set up right for you personally, you can end up boxed in. Which is something put upon you by others but ultimately becomes something you're doing to yourself, continuing to tell yourself what others told you about what you can and cannot do with yourself in various respects. I need to stop standing in my own way.
I think that the american indian expression "it is a good day to die" is specifically about this. Fear is just you standing in your own way. It is an admonition to be open to all the possibilities within a day and within yourself.
