not feeling so hot today, i think i may be coming down with something. i feel so empty and wasted, like i have nothing left in me. work was slow so i left early. tried to pick up a second job at hollywood express but ended up settling for a promise of future hiring and hellboy.
when i got home i put on my union suit, my new pj pants and a sweatshirt, hoping that it would make me feel better. all it did was make it impossible to stay awake for the movie. i've gotten so bad at this recently. it seems that my body just shuts down when i'm home and an expensive, rented movie is on the tv.
i woke up, sweating, to the sound of pots banging in my kitchen. amy was home and she was making split pea soup (gag me with a spoon). i spent the next hour feeling miserable and finally decided that i needed food. chinese it was.
after i finished eating it was a third, THIRD, attempt at hellboy. it was glorious and worth every second of it. the humanization of such a cartoonish character has never been done better as far as i'm concerned and i think that ron perlman is a dark horse candidate for an oscar nod. though i suppose i think everyone is a dark horse for an oscar nod. this calls for a bellated best of year ending series of lists. here we go.
best album: elliott smith - from a basement on a hill
best album by someone still alive:le tigre - this island
best song: twilight - elliott smith
best concept album (special catergory): mastodon - leviathan
favorite old song of the year: everything's ruined - faith no more
best film: kill bill v.2
best actor: ron perlman - hellboy
best supporting actor: david carradine - kill bill v.2 or (and i will surely take it back in a minute) eric bana - troy
best actress: uma thurman - kill bill v.2
best supporting actress: kirsten dunst - eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
take back the eric bana thing, leaving it up there just so everyone knows that at one point, two minutes ago i felt a strange connection to that man.
best book: the final solution is the only new book i read this year. i'm still catching up.
favorite book of the year: old school - tobias wolfe
nothing else pops to mind that should be written here so i will now say goodbye.
