EDIT: Saturday - Logged in today and got this banner at the top (which, considering my username, made me smile):
Okay first up - days off work rule!
This morning I actually got up at my usual time (7am) and watched an episode of the Teen Titans cartoon in bed... which is much more preferably than rushing around getting ready for work!
Then I watched an episode of 21 Jump Street from my Season 1 DVD set (that I'm slowly working my way through!) and then tidied the kitchen up a bit whilst watching really bad daytime TV!
Then I walked up to the local video shop and rented The Grudge on DVD to watch with my Mum later (she loves a good horror!)... It's really weird being out in daylight and walking around when youre so used to being stuck in the same concrete block for nine hours a day! And on the way back I saw two magpies - so I'm in for some good luck (although I did find 15 in my wallet that I didn't know I had but that happened before I saw the magpies so that shouldn't count as my good luck)!
And to top it all off I'm having fish & chips and a carton of curry from the chippy later... mmmmmmmm
(and I have a fresh Warburtons Toastie loaf ready for the mandatory chip butties)
!!!
And it's my Birthday tomorrow! And I'm off to London to see Kevin Smith on Monday... so all in all it should be a pretty good long weekend!
And now for something of no interest whatsoever...
BOOK I'VE BEEN READING THIS WEEK
EDIT: SilenceNoir said I should have more pictures of myself... so being the easily led type I'ce changed the picture above to include myself!
Back in 2001 DC Comics released a really good hardcover collection entitled "Bizarro Comics!" which featured various unique takes on mainstream DC characters by writers and artists more associated with the independent comic-book world. As a big DC fan and also a fan of a lot of indie stuff the book was really enjoyable and I've re-read it a lot since it was published (plus my copy now has a nice little Bizarro sketch in it by Roger Langridge that makes me smile everytime I look at it)!
So anyway it's now four years later and DC Comics have released a follow up hardcover entitled "Bizarro World" that is essentially more of the same. This time around the creators included Rick Altergott, Pete Bagge, Kyle Baker, Ivan Brunetti, Eddie Campbell, Dave Cooper, Paul Dini, Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer, Hunt Emerson, Paul Grist, Gilbert & Jamie Hernandez, Roger Langridge, Tony Millionaire, Scott Morse, Harvey Pekar and Andi Watson (plus a ton more but they're the guys and gals whose work I already had an interest).
Some highlights for me this time around included "Lantern Sentai" (basically a manga version of the Green Lantern Corps where they are very Power Ranger-esque heroes fighting the giant monster Starro!) written by Studio Kaiju co-founders Rand & David Borden and illustrated by Ninja High School creator Ben Dunn; "Kamandi, the Laziest Boy on Earth" written by The Onion writer John Krewson and illustrated by one of my all-time favourites, Evan Dorkin (who also writes several other stories in this collection); and an untitled Aquaman story (illustrated by an amazing artist I'd never heard of before called Danny Hellman) where the King of the Seas is suffering from low self-esteem and performing his love songs at open mic nights!
