How is it that a place can make so much difference on your mood?

I've lived in 8 different cities and each place has a different feel and puts me in a a completely unique mood.

happy to leave LA...damned glad to be in SF

addendum: Maybe its because of my midwest upbringing but I find it mildly disturbing to walk into a store and hear christmas music while its sunny and 75 degrees out. Have we just forgotten about seasons?
