8 years ago today, my godfather got his heart transplant. And he is doing better than ever. Looking at him and how active he is, you would never know. His donor was a woman; 3 kids, soccer mom. Could have been my own with how similar their lives were
If you're not an organ donor already, whats stopping you?
If you're in NJ please check this site out. He works with them all year round but i have done a few outreaches and events for them as well over the years.
Everyone else can check about their state here.
Up until recently i also donated blood regularly, before i got a new tattoo and i also was a registered national bone marrow donor before my recent diagnosis and if i am clear in 5 years, i will be again.
While not everyone can be expected to make the commitment of wanting to donate bone marrow, i feel everyone should at least be an organ donor and give blood if physically able. You never know when you may need the help of a generous stranger. My godfathers heart was attacked by a virus that anyone can get at anytime. it just chose to attack his heart. You just don't know. Donated blood gave me an extra week to say goodbye to my pop pop, and organ donation gave my godfather a second chance at life a better quality of life and a chance to see his family grow and change ( i was 14 years old when he got his transplant. He's seen so many accomplishments).
With how uncertain life is, it really cannot hurt anyone. You could walk outside and get hit by a bus (knock on wood) and you could save or life or have your life saved. It goes both ways folks. I have always been a believer in karma.
