Here is a poem I wrote several years ago...
"Searching"
The memories haunt me,
Teasing me with their ghostly past.
I am forever trapped in this hellish void,
Never to be free.
Endless years, and still I search.
For innocence? For happiness?
I don't quite know.
I search for myself,
And find instead a little girl in a woman's body.
Her face damp with tears,
Eyes so full of sadness,
Eyes filled with her past.
Insomnia teases her into oblivion,
Torturing her soul.
She cries out in her darkness,
Weeping for wasted yesterdays,
Impossible to retreive.
She takes a haggard breath,
Shattering the silence.
Wishing for innocence,
Waiting for happiness,
But that was so long ago...
My inner peace has yet to come,
Time drags on, such wasted youth.
Once I saw a careless girl,
So full of emotion.
I see an old woman now.
Her eyes shining with wisdom.
Her withered body,
Her parched skin, ,
Her broken heart.
And still she searches for inner peace.

I'm curious... are any of your cats calico? Someone I met working at a cat adoption fair said that all of the FIV cats she'd seen were [female] calico.
