Did you know that fun adventure is possible even when everything goes wrong?
I decided I would drive the 3 hours last night to NJ for a show. Needed an oil change. Figured I may as well get a few other things fixed while I was at it. And 230 dollars later i was back on the road. Shit. The bonus about this is that it was taking so long that they made me leave, so I went to the bookstore and got to see all the ridiculous decorations and costume they were wearing for their big Harry Potter night.
I guess its nice to see people getting into books, I guess.
So I got on the road thinking it would be a fun little trip. 3 hours. No big deal. Yes. Of course. Hours of traffic followed. And hours of getting lost in New Jersey. Oh New Jersey! You mystical black hole. A never ending series of U turns. Maps can tame you. Roads change names. Asking locals doesn't help. Its easy to them. Or maybe they were just lying when I asked directions that lead me in more circles. Maybe you're not supposed to find your way around in New Jersey. Maybe thats why so many people stay there forever.
So I made it to the show. Damned if it isn't 11pm, but I made it. I'm at Gotham Road, Michael Graves (of the Misfits) new band. It has to be at least sort of fun, right?
I run to my friends and scream at the top of my lungs. Just scream. Its a surprise that I'm there. The high of not driving anymore has sent me wild. We shit through a terrible band and Gotham Road is up next. They are awful. Awful. Oh Michael Graves, why do you stay in New Jersey. There is no way out after a while. The music gets worse and the fans get stronger. They crash and crash until the whole crowd has fallen over. They sing at the tops of their lungs at your beautiful voice being wasted in a terrible band. Maybe I just can't understand the sound. Maybe your all New Jersey supergroup is so New Jersey that it can only be enjoyed by your New Jersey fans. New Jersey New Jersey New Jersey,
I guess its nice to see people getting into shows I guess.
We left early. I got lost on the way home. I was falling asleep for the hours back but it doesn't matter. Driving down the highway as the sun rise, window down, music up, is still the greatest feeling on this planet.
