I got to work late this morning because of the snow.
"What snow, Dorei?" you ask. And as well you should! Seems our forecasters have proclaimed SNOW!!! in large capital letters and screaming kermit arms for today. Ordinarily, this would not be a cause for lateness, but the situation is more complicated. Let me roll back the clock to 7 a.m. EST today.
(Dorei's bedroom door creaks open, eldest is standing in the doorway.)
Eldest: Mom, I don't feel good at all. My body aches all over still.
Me: Well, what's going on at school today?
Eldest: I have an SOL* first block.
Me: Okay. Well, I want you to go in for your SOL, and then go to clinic and I'll pick you up and bring you home, and then go to work.
Eldest: Okay.
I proceed to go take a shower, and make plans to call the bossman and tell him I'll work from home in the morning. Round 'bout 8:15ish, I log onto my computer and up pops an email. Loudoun County has closed the schools due to the weather FORECAST.
That's right folks. No snow, other than a couple of flurries have happened, but they've closed the schools. So, I go tell my kid to stand down, she doesn't have to go to school for anything and tell her to go back to bed. I then hop to it to find clothes and get on the road to work.
So as I said, snow made me late for work today. Cue manic Kermit arms.
*SOL is "standards of learning" also known as standardized testing in the state of Virginia. They are tests that all children must pass before being allowed to graduate.
