So as most of you may not know because I rarely talk about anything...my job sucks. ACTUALLY most jobs suck, but mine has been pretty decent until recently when my old GM got fired and they brought in a new guy.
So this new guy is one year older than me, which makes him 29, he is a spoiled rich kid whose best friends uncle own the company. That is me being nice, but also stating some crucial facts.
There are so many different stories its hard to find a place to start so we will just start with what happened today, just now....
I went in to work sick, I have been sick all weekend. I have been taking medicine and sleeping as much as possible, not drinking, working out, eating good. All these things in order to try and get better because really who LIKES being sick? Exactly. But alas, I went into work today thinking I could make it through. I could not. I called him to tell him I had to leave because I just wasnt feeling well and this is what he said,
"I mean I am not going to tell you I am not going to be pissed if you leave. You are going to leave us short handed. (not true) I expect my assistant managers to miss as much work as I have missed in my years with ***** and that is 0 days.
Me, OK then I will stay..
HIm- " NO I mean go home I dont want you to get everyone else sick. Being sick is just a mental thing. I dont get sick anymore because I tell myself I cant get sick. You just have to take better care of yourself. Eat right and be healthier. None of the other assistant managers at the Dallas store have ever been sick. You just have to take care of yourself and its all in your mind.
Me, "I have literally done everything that you just said and I'm sorry that I am still sick. I will just stay."
So when he gets there and I am still there he says, "I thought I told you to go home."
I said, "Well I cant afford you being pissed at me." (every person that pisses him off or he doesnt like has been fired including another assistant manager who worked there for 3 years)
He says, "No go home. Its cool I understand YOU HAVE A KID. (WAIT WHAT THE FUCK. HOLD THE FUCK ON...DID I EVER MENTION MY CHILD IN ANY PART OF OUR CONVERSATION?)
I said, "Me having a kid has NOTHING to do with this! I am sick. It happens from time to time. I cant remember the last time I called in to work. I'm not just playing hooky here, I am not 18 years old, I need my hours.
He recanted again and said he wouldnt be pissed and blah blah blah....
Now mind you I said everything here in a calm and collected manner, but I swear any chance they have to use the fact that I am a woman and have a child against me they do.
About 2 months ago, in a meeting with the owner of my company, he told me "You need to realize that women are more emotional than men and be aware of that when making decisions. You always do whats best for the company and not what your emotions say at the time."
Now again,,,this is not because of an incident with me being emotional this was simply a meeting to discuss why I wasnt given the store when the old GM got fired. This is just "advice" he is giving me. Advice I am well aware of because I am an adult and have managed a store before, In fact, as some of you may or may not know I managed one of his stores less than a year ago and it was the most successful out of all the other smaller stores they tried to put in malls. Mine was the ONLY ONE which profited! If that doesnt say something about my ability to manage then I dont know what does,
Anyhow other than the fact that I have worked there for 4 years and am still making less than my male counterparts who have worked there for only a year. My GM also likes to "joke" about us all working topless and repeatidly talk about cocks and balls and completely innapropriate things. IN ADDITION to him hiring 3 new people and writing the other two males names down on the schedule and then simply writing GIRL for the woman that was hired...I think I am going to be leaving my current place of employment REAL SOON.
If I dont get fired before I quit. I also wonder tho...do I have a lawsuit? I wish i knew a lawyer because I dont really want money. I just want someone to recognize that THIS IS NOT RIGHT! This behavior is NOT OKAY and NO ONE should have to work in such an environment. Although the sad truth is it is probably pretty common.
