It's the 13th of March. I have 47 days left in the United States Army. I'm pretty happy about that. It's been a long, arduous road that has brought me here and I'm glad that it'll be over soon. I'm still not exactly sure how things are going to work out once I'm out, but this feels like a prison sentence a lot of the time, so I feel like anything will be better.
The only reason I'm still here in the first place is that I was supposed to have surgery on my knee, which has been cancelled. Three surgeons have agreed that surgery wouldn't help my situation at this point. Of course, that's because the military healthcare system is fucked. I should have had surgery for this within 2 weeks of the injury, which was the 26th of November, but I didn't even get an appointment to see a surgeon until February. Anyway, hopefully I don't have to go through physical therapy for 4 more months and wear a knee brace for who knows how long.
So, the path forward? I've completed the FAFSA and the paperwork to apply for my GI Bill. Now, I'm just waiting for acceptance to Pensacola Junior College, where I'll be taking all the prerequisites for my nursing degree. As long as that goes well and as long as I'm accepted, I will be attending Spring Hill college in Mobile, AL to take my actual nursing courses. I need to get away from Nashville, Ft. Campbell, and most of the people around these locations. The beach seems like a nice place for it for a couple years. After that, it's on to Colorado and the great wide open future. I just hope all at least comes close to happening according to plan. That certainly hasn't been the story of my life up to this point.
I am glad to be back on SG and I'm glad to be talking to people again who have affected my life in a positive way and who I will forever be apologetic for losing contact with for so long. I hope you're all doing well and that things are getting better in your lives every day.
