I decided that being at my parents computer, actually having access to sound I should compile a youtube video post for you. This is not an amazing cohesive list. It isn't all songs I think will change your life forever. But I picked each video for a reason. For each video I will give a (hopefully) brief description of why I chose to add it.
Great Big Sea - Goin' Up
There were so many songs I could have chosen by them. This one just fills me with cheer. And the music video is ridiculous. Being from one of their earlier albums it is also a good introduction to the b'ys.
Ok Go - Get Over It
First of all, man I miss Ok Go.
I had initially been planning on sticking up their infamous treadmill video that everyone has seen 8 million times (Here it Goes Again), but I actually like this song more. I just love the line "she's got a body like a battle axe".
Damien Rice - Blower's Daughter
From O. Haunting. Stunning. I get shivers. God I love him and he should marry me or at least father my children so I can potentially have musical children.
Placebo - Slave to the Wage
Favorite Placebo song. Video major eye candy. Not just because Brian Molko is Beautiful.
Kristin Chenowith - Hopelessly Devoted to You
Loretta Devine - Help
Kristin as Olive Snook in the dearly departed Pushing Daisies, Loretta Devine as Pattie Dellacroix in the dearly departed Eli Stone. Both wonderful dramadies murdered by ABC. Both of which regularly, or semi regularly featured fantastic musical numbers. Both were better than Glee. (Though I am not saying I don't enjoy Glee.)
The Killers -Spaceman
I hate it and I love it. The singer does look kind of hot in the ridiculous space suit. The lyrics don't mean a god damn fuck, and I kind of like appreciate that. I can't hear the song without nodding my head and starting to sing along. Even when I don't want to. That makes me hate myself a little.
Outkast - Mrs. Jackson
I don't really need to say anything here. Just duh.
Damien Rice - Rootless Tree
From 9. The first time I heard this song for some unknown reason it made me laugh hysterically. It isn't actually a funny song.
Carbon Leaf - Let Your Troubles Roll By (Live)
My favorite band, local boys. This is the best song off of their Indian Summer album. It's hard to find good quality videos of them, finally found this one and realized it had actually been uploaded by Terry. This guy. The one who is obviously, you know, not female. I've been seeing them live since 2001, countless times. The shows are always wonderful and Terry is always a treat to talk to. I can go for a year or more between shows and he'll remember my name and still go out of his way to talk to me. Watch it. Love them like I do.
Matchbox Twenty - How Far We've Come (Live)
I like Matchbox Twenty. I am not ashamed of this fact. And I really really like this song. It is one of those songs I can just play over and over again. It makes me happy. I also think that Rob Thomas is a truly fantastic live performer.
Goldfinger - Here in Your Bedroom
Brings back memories of my only surprise birthday party, stuffing Jalapenos with creme cheese, and Canada.
Save Ferris - Come on Eileen
When we were teens at the hippie church camp during the summer we totally thought we were Ska. We made them play this every night at the dance, where we'd kick out our feet and flail our arms en masse.
Lil Jon - Get Low
Another song we'd play every night at hippie camp, but we weren't teens anymore.
True story: My mom used to absentmindedly sing this to herself in the kitchen while doing the dishes or cooking dinner and doing a little dance. I had numerous friends ask me if they had really just heard my mom say "aww skeet skeet mother fucker" or "to the sweat drops down my balls, all these bitches crawl."
Rob Thomas - 3 a.m. Piano Acoustic (Unplugged, rare.)
This isn't a video, but it is just to beautiful for me not to share. It is a pretty rare version of this song, and if you are a fan of them at all, and a fan of this song you definitely need to listen. If you aren't a fan of them/him, it might give you something to think about. I think this is one of the most powerful pieces of music I have ever heard.
I kind of feel like I am forgetting something that I had specifically planned on adding when I first starting doing this, but oh well. If I think of it, I'll add later.
I hope you enjoy. Or at least find it mildly entertaining. Or discover something new. Or rediscover something you haven't seen/heard in awhile. I'd definitely like to know what you think though. Any feedback welcome.
