Everything is packed up. Kind of. Doing it all by myself kind of forced a rushed, rag tag job of it. But it's done. Everything is in boxes or shoved in the car. Or somewhere. I never want to have to do this again. Having to deal with moving by yourself sucks.
I went and picked up the truck. Left my car there so that I can go back tomorrow morning and get it hitched to the back of the truck. This means when I go pick up my company from the airport tonight I have to pick him up in packed or mostly packed truck. Awesome.
Driving a huge truck without a rear-view mirror is officially terrifying. I'm really, really glad I will be having company along for the trip. Doing it alone would have been miserable. Well, it wouldn't have been completely alone. It would have been me and the cat. Which would probably have been worse because I would have been having to pay attention to the road, keeping myself from panicking, and controlling a terrified cat. Also, ominous storm clouds are looming overhead. Which means it might rain during the packing up the truck process. Awesome.
I'm currently sitting and resting for a bit before starting to load the truck. Part of this is because I have been packing non stop for the past couple of days and my muscles ache, part of this is because it is necessary to get the heavy stuff into the truck first and the guys in my apartment complex who can help me do that aren't back yet. There is no way I can finagle a large 150 lb solid oak table into the truck by myself. No fucking way.
I'm not in too much of a rush. I've got almost 9 hours until he gets here, not too many boxes, and very little furniture. I should be fine. If worst comes to worst he and I can get the last of the stuff in the truck when we get up in the morning.
So, Vlad is going to be super useful on this trip. Not only will he keep me from getting bored and having panic attacks, he'll be able to leash in the cat, and sit in the passenger seat with his head sticking out of the window to make sure there is nobody in my blind spot whenever I need to change lanes. Useful!
