And now, time for Julia's fantastic-in-no-special-way album review session!
And so we begin...
Helmet - Monochrome
Meh, lil' boring. I wasn't too appealed, but I have their Best Of and could leave it with the exception of 3 or 4 songs. They're a pretty simple band, but they've been around for a while so attained cred. All in all I'm not the biggest Helmet fan out there, and hey, you may not even call me a "fan", really. They haven't seemed to change much, still sounds like 90s Helmet-style Helmet. Right, right...moving along...
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
Think Dragons. Keyboards. Long haired men with open shirts and tight pants. Someone wanted to listen to this the other day and I almost denied. I told him the best way I can describe this band is "fantasy metal". He said it'd might be something he could handle. Yeah, 5 minutes later: "You weren't kidding..." put the headphones down and promptly walked away.
Dashboard Confessional. Need I say more?
Sufjan Stevens - Avalanche
Getting a real appreciation for folk music these days, and Sufjan Stevens is up there (along with John Prine)
Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways
Holy CRAP, Cash has released like 50 albums, compilations, box sets and a movie since he died. We had this life-size stand of him in the store a few months ago...freaked the heck out of me once when I *thought* I was alone...
But yeah, back to album. Track 2 - "God's Gonna Cut You Down", good stuff, wicked song. However I think by this point producers, record companies and distributers are just flat out taking advantage of diehard Cash fans who WILL buy just about everything released. Sorta turning into a Nirvana thing....
