I went to see the puppy today...he's doing really, really bad. The vet said, "I came in this morning and asked [one of the nurses] if Dax was still alive. She said yes, and I was really surprised."
Thanks, doc, that's really what I wanted to hear. It seems that the biggest problem now is that he won't eat, so he's literally starving to death now. It's common, because they throw up so much, that the puppies won't eat, but now the parvo should be gone enough for him to start eating at least a little bit, but he's not...and he's still throwing up.
He didn't even lift up his head when I went in to see him today.
This is really killing me. I've been crying all afternoon. The vet seems to think he picked it up at Petco, because so many people take their dogs there. And now I feel so bad for us taking him out there, because that's probably why he's sick. I don't know what else can be done for him...he just has to start eating and he'll start getting better.
If he does die, this will be the 2nd puppy I have had to die from parvo in the last four years. Those are the only two puppies I've ever had ever get parvo, so I'm batting zero here with luck when it comes to this disease. There's an 85% recovery rate...and of course, MY puppies can't be in that HUGE percentage of recovery, they have to be in the small percentage of not recovering.
My only hope is that since he surprised the vet today by still being alive that he'll continue to do that and that he'll improve, just very slowly.
He's insured by the Animal Shelter for up to $500...but now that he's taken this turn and is still at the vet, we're going to have some hellacious vet bills. This is the last of my worries right now, really, but I'm not sure how we're going to pay the part we're going to have to pay. Really, I'd pay a million dollars if it meant I could have Dax better and home with us, you know, but I don't know where I'd come up with that million...
Please keep us in your thoughts...JP and I are so upset by this, and poor Dax just keeps barely hanging on.
My puppy took a turn for the worse today. He's still not eating, still throwing up, and now he's not being energetic or wagging his tail and barking anymore.
The vet is going to go back and check on him later, and we're going to go visit...maybe it will brighten his spirits and let him know we haven't forgotten about him.
please send good wishes for him to get better. I really don't know what I will do if he dies...
