Ok, it's official! I'm going to be a mama!!
....to a little, chocolate brown, sweet as honey, baby labrador retriever we've named Dax. We took Alley over to meet him today and the three of us just fell in love with the little ball of fluffy cuteness. He and Alley get along sooooo well...immediately, they started rolling around with each other, playing. I can't wait to take pictures of him to show you all my new little baby!!
We had to leave him at the Animal Shelter this weekend, because they won't let anyone adopt a pet until it's neutered. His little snip snip is going to be on Monday morning, so he'll be all ours on Monday afternoon.
We even got there late...in the afternoon...not a single one of the morning appointments to see him showed up. While I was filling out the adoption paperwork, 3 of them showed up. But, it was, "So sorry, he's mine now" for them. The shelter even offers an obedience class...they pay YOU $35 if your dog completes it. Which means, in essence, since the adoption fee was only $25...the Humane Society is paying ME $10 to take the cutest puppy in the world home.
We also got both of them micro-chipped today. The shelter was doing it for $20 a dog today (it's normally anywhere from $75-$100). What that does is- anytime the dog shows up in a shelter, in the vet's, or in an animal hospital, the chip (tinier than a grain of rice, inserted between the shoulder blades under the skin) is scanned. Say someone stole my dog and had to take it to the vet. They scan him, and the information showing up from the registry doesn't match the information of the person bringing him in....they call me and I can come get my dog. It's a very useful thing to do.
They asked if I'd like to volunteer at the shelter. As much as I'd love to, I'd be bringing home new puppies so much JP and I wouldn't have a place to live.
Damn my allergies. Damn them all to hell. *shakes fist at grass and pollen*
