After 5 months living in Japan and going to University there, I am finally getting back home in Canada in a month. I really liked living in Japan, but don’t get me wrong, Montreal is an amazing city.
Here’s the top things I enjoyed the most while living in Japan:
- Food. Since I am here, I did not even cooked a meal once. I didn’t need to because of how diverse the choice of food here is and how healthy and flavorful it is.
- Perfect city for an introvert. I liked Japan a lot as an introverted person. People here seem to just do their thing without bothering anyone and that is something I really enjoy. You can go eat, drink, shop, go to concerts and basically do everything alone without feeling judged and being disturbed.
- Bow. I will totally miss bowing. It’s a simple action that means a lot here.
- My apartment. I know this sounds stupid, but I really loved my tiny apartment. It is actually the first time that I lived by myself and enjoyed having my own place.
- Public transportation. Easy and always on time. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. (But expensive)
Even though I enjoyed my daily life in Japan, I wouldn’t want to live here forever. Here’s the reasons why I miss Montreal:
- Diversity. I miss seeing people from all around the world. I love the diversity we have in Montreal and I wouldn’t want to live in a country where there is almost no immigrant and no POC.
- Art. Japan is really boring when it comes to art. In Montreal, the city is pretty much alive by all the mapping you can see on buildings, all the people playing music in the streets, all the mural paintings, etc. Art is everywhere you go.
- Tattoos and piercings. AHHHH BRING BACK ALL THE ALTERNATIVE PEOPLE PLEASE. In Japan, it is rare to find people with tattoos or piercings or simply people with different styles. I miss it A LOT.
- Making friends. As much as I really love being an introvert, in Japan it is really hard to make friends at school and pretty much everywhere. You cannot simply walk to someone you think looks cool, especially because of the language barrier, but also because you do not want to be bothersome.

Being away from home for so long made me think a lot about what I wanna do next with my life since some of my biggest dream came true in the last year. (Move to Japan to study and becoming a Suicide girl)
So, here's a list of things I want to achieve in the next year or so:
- Photography. While in Japan, I bought a new lens (50mm 1.4) for my canon. I intend to try to shoot sets for Suicide Girl as a photographer. I know that it will take time and good practice before my sets will turn out great, but I’ll be patient. I also intend to recruit girls from Montreal since there is almost no active hopefuls and SG from there.
- Music. As some of you might know, I play guitar since I am 13 yo. I play a genre of music that not everyone might know; it is called Mathrock. Here’s my favorite band that also play that genre. I intend to practice a lot and try to record an EP in the following year.
- Studies. I will also start my last year of my Bachelor’s degree. I can’t wait to graduate and do my master as a Game Designer. WOOOO
Love you guys so much and I wish only the best for you.
