Well, I never posted this but I did write it on the 25th of last month. Guess I should put it up here =P

This weekend was the Yuma Prison run. I left Sacramento on Thursday morning at 5am to head down to southern California to meet up with my dad. I ended up taking a detour in the Semi Valley to have lunch with my friend. When I was getting ready to leave the Valley it was finally warm enough for me to loose my thermals and my jacket. When I got to my dads house in Riverside I had a beer and wiped the bugs off the bike and myself. We BBQed some chicken and just relaxed until heading to bed.
Friday we woke up at about 5:30 and got a quick breakfast in and loaded up the bikes. We left at about 7. It was a cool morning so the cold weather gear stayed on which was a good thing once we hit the desert. We had a strong tail wind that while it pushed us, it made it more difficult to control the bikes. Once we stopped for gas the winds had let up. At the gas station we ran into some people my dad knows from a group in Riverside he used to ride with. We stayed and BSed with them for a bit. We left without the group so that we could keep our own pace. We stopped 17 miles before hitting Yuma at a rest stop. My dad wanted to grab a beer (strapped on the bike). Once we pulled into the rest stop another couple bikes pulled in followed by a larger group and then a couple more on full dressers with CD players. The rest stop turned into a block party. We had a couple beers and headed into Yuma. We got to the motel and checked in so we could unload our bikes and helmets (no helmet law in Arizona) before heading to the fairgrounds to check in for the rally. Once we got into the rally we met up with some people my dad knows and a couple that I had met years ago before moving to Sacramento. Had a couple more beers and walked around a bit, got some grub and decided to head out and come back the next day for the actual rally. (Friday is the check in/setup and Saturday is the actual rally).
My dad decided to take a detour on the way back to the motel because he wanted to hit up a bar. So we did; a strip bar. We got there and there was nothing going on, it was like a sports bar with girls in corsets bringing you your drinks. Once the stage shows started at 6:30ish my dad called up the people from Riverside and had them come down. A strip club full of bikers getting all buzzed is fun as hell. The bar loved it and just let us run the place. I think we could have done damn near anything inappropriate and the bouncers would have just laughed. We headed back to the motel, had a cigar, and went to bed.
Saturday we got a late start because we were recovering. Went to get some grub and then headed out to the rally. They had a full schedule of events. Bingo, motorcycle games, trike games, kids games, a bike show, an acrobatic bike club (on cruisers), the bike parade to and thru the prison, dinner, and a dance/concert. Not to mention the different vendors that were there. I saw an iron cross belt buckle that was in diamond plate so I had to get it. We headed to the motel to relax and drink by the pool then crashed kinda early so we could ride out at a decent time on Sunday.
Sunday we left and the head winds were heavy. They blew sand across the highway and tossed our heads perty bad. We stopped for breakfast and kept on riding. We took a little highway back up after a while. It was a sweet road. After being on that road for a bit we stopped at a bar called the Hideout. We pulled up and there were no cars, just about 100 or so bikes lining the road. It was a cool little bar. We had a beer then headed the rest of the way to Riverside. I wiped the bike down again to get the weekends worth of bugs off then got cleaned up and ate.
I got a hold of an old friend I used to work with back when I was in high school and went out for some dessert with her then over to her place for a bit just to catch up. It was good to see her again. She can be hard to get a hold of at times.
Monday morning I left Riverside at 5am and just tried to make it thru L.A. traffic. I hit a little but I avoided most of it. Stopped for gas and breakfast at the foot of the grapevine then blasted up the 99. Made good time because I didnt stop for lunch or anything. Went by Pauls house to see how he was doing then went home to unload and relax.
My mom wanted to take me out to dinner Monday night so who am I to say no? Picked up the work van after dinner and met up with my friend to watch Shaun of the Dead and ate some ice cream.
Now Im at work and the grind begins again.
Here are some pictures from the trip. The photos are in reverse order so yeah

I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again- I'm really glad you enjoyed that trip as much as you did. You really deserved that vacation! And I know you like seeing your dad.

jmsilverwolf:
Sounds like a good trip bro. It's good to head back down south now and again. It's good to catch up with friends and folks. And it's good to see the sights, and remember why you left.
