Well, this is my second attempt to update in two days, the first draft of this update was destroyed by an internet interruption, the one time I didn't copy it to make sure it survived. Figures.
Anyway, starting from yesterday again, here goes.
Originally, yesterday's plan was to go shopping in Harajuku with some friends, because I have no fashion sense whatsoever. Anyway, that play fell through because they ended up doing something else and we all had hangovers anyway. It appeared that it was going to become a very boring day when one of the two Japanese girls who came over to eat lunch with us invited me along with her and her friend to come shopping with them and visit a shrine etcetera. I decided to go along to salvage whatever was to be left of the day.
It turned out to be quite a bit of fun. We first went to asakusa, mainly to see the huge shrine that was destroyed and rebuilt after world war two. It had two monstrous lanterns at either end of a huge shopping corridor. My bosnian friend bought a nice new digital camera there for 350 dollars American. Only problem was that the menus were all in Japanese. Luckily I was able to translate their meanings for him so no harm was done. After that we went to go see the shrine itself. At this point I noticed that Hiroko, the Japanese girl who invited me was being especially nice to me. She was pointing out all the things we should do and the things I should try, it was very nice of her. We went up to the buddhist shrine and offered coins and made a wish. She was impressed that I knew the routine and knew what to do at the incense burner. I made two wishes. Unfortunately I got a bad fortune, which put a damper on the day, but no matter.
After that, we went to Satomi's parents house, who were my bosnian friends host family for the trip. It was only about 10 minutes away from our dorm once all was said and done. The food there was simply spectacular. Their family owns a popular sushi restaurant. First he brought out some squid slices with some vegetables presented on a leaf of some sort. The texture was quite interesting, it tasted good. Oh, I forgot to mention, at the counter there were all the ingredients he could use, like over a dozen types of different sushi meats he could use and more. After the squid we tried something we never imagined we would eat in our lives: Whale. We didnt believe them for like 5 minutes of them trying to explain what it was, but finally they put it in there dictionary and we had to believe them. It was delicious. We then had tuna belly, caviar, strange white fish that sort of looked like bean sprouts that were really tiny and you could only tell they were fish from their two eyes, octopus, and more. (and then a few different sushi rolls) It was probably about 50 dollars of sushi a plate, but they refused to let us pay for it. It was touching. We then went upstairs and played games and talked for a long time. They had a dog who is 17 years old! wow thats ancient! One of her sisters could play the piano and she was absolutely amazing. I've played the piano for over 15 years, but she blew me out of hte water (she was 28) We then played some crazy version of tetris and got to know the family. All the while 'hiroko' was constantly sitting next to me and talking to me, I think she might like me, she made me give her my e-mail adress. At one point I heard her talking to her friend about us and I heard her say I was cute in Japanese. I think she was really impressed when I carried her bag for her since it was heavy.(apparently Japanese guys aren't very chivalric (ugh bad spelling)) Another couple times I could tell she was interested in me was when my friend introduced himself as the cuter of the two of us and she said shinzirarenai to her other friend, (I don't believe you) and I laughed and she blushed really red. Hmm after that what happened.... was just interrupted for a while, lost my train of thought.
Uhhh, well, after a while hiroko had to leave, so we left with her so she wouldn't have to leave alone. She is twenty, but she certainly doesn't look the part. She sat next to me on the train and we talked for a while. She asked me if I had a girlfriend and I said no, and when I asked why, she blushed again and refused to asnwer, hmm, who knows with girls anyway. Anyway, we got to her stop and we still had to go so I told her to be careful. She made me promise I would e-mail her back when she e-mailed me, I said of course. After that the day was done, slept like a log, despite Adem's jackhammer snoring.
Zhang Peng e-mailed me again, but I wanted to wait for me to become sober and composed before I sent a reply. She still didn't email me a time when we can get together, but I hope she does soon, she said she would so I don't think she would just not do it entirely. And from her e-mails she sounds interested. I'm hoping she is.
Next day :
E-mailed Zhang Peng, hoping she sends some reply soon. We luckily happen to be in one of the same clubs, and I subtley suggested that I might want to go to one of the same places she said that she wanted to visit in the future. (yasukuni shrine, imagine an American and a Chinese girl going there, but I'm morbidly curious, yes I know the significance of the shrine, I'm a history major) We seem to be hitting it off in our e-mails to one another, so I'm hoping for the best. She is sooo cute and smart <3.
Today we were planning to go shopping again, but our plans changed to go to see the Leonardo davinci notebooks that tour a different country of the world each year and this year happened to be Japan so how could we pass it up? Anyway after we toured it our group scattered, so it turned out that there was no shopping accomplished today as well unfortunately. However we went to TGI fridays, so I guess that made up for it a little bit. the food was a nice change of pace, and the banana chocolate malt was delicious. So despite not accomplishing my goal a SECOND time, it was still a good day.
Unfortunately, one of my friends interrupted me as I was writing this entry, and rather than closing it and losing my entry for a second time today, I minimized it where they eventually saw it. Now she knows I subscribe to a porn site. How horribly embarrassing. Perhaps I shouldn't have put a years worth of journaling on here so I had to come back. Damnit. Well hopefully she won't tell everyone in this tiny dorm so they vilify me. What an awkward situation. >
Damnit.
