Isn't too terribly much to write about today. Went to another day of class. First class was impossible to stay awake through for the first half of it due to it just being propaganda about UNESCO. Then we sat and watched some North Korean dancers dance on a video of a UNESCO event where children were supposed to meet. The man who was talking to us spoke glowingly of the NK dancers. I was taken aback, since they come from a country that is starving and brutally repressed, yet he didn't seem to mention anything about that. Only that they steal the show each year. Harumph.
It was interesting seeing some of the figures on the illiterate adult populations of the world though. I had no idea that India figured so high on that list. Anyway, what else did I do today? Uh, I had a class about Japanese mass media where we took sample sentances and were supposed to slim them down to be shorter sentances. Some of them were utterly baffling, such as "She recieved a limp." Needless to say, we didn't get that one. We also figured out that our teacher, who looks like he is fresh out of grad school, is actually over 40. I wish I would age that well. Our Japanese professor who is cute is actually 34. Strange once again, she doesn't look nearly that old.
E-mailed the cute Chinese girl back. Hoping for an answer soon.
Other than that, I went to a club meeting that never took place, and then did homework in the English Chat lounge. Talked to a few people, there are some gorgeous girls here. Also talked to an elderly woman in english for a while. I guess she is a student too. She doesn't like to wait her turn though, and tries to drown out the other people waiting in the Chat lounge. Well, at least she has the desire to learn i suppose. Its really difficult communicating with some of the girls who come into the chat lounge because they are unbelievably shy. Some come into the Chat lounge and refuse to talk at all. (Its not just with me either, the other people who contribute time to the chat lounge also complain of this same thing) I wonder why they would come to the Chat lounge if they seemingly refuse to communicate.
I'm not supposed to speak any Japanese whatsoever in the Chat lounge, but I can't help but try to use as much japanese as I can to try and get practice. Its one of hte few places that we interact with the students as of yet. They claim to wnat to get to know everyone, but half the time when our students try and reach out to their students, they refuse to talk or pretend they didn't notice when people say 'hello' to them. It gets kinda frustrating after a while. They may be shy I suppose, but its really starting to come off as arrogance.
I missed out on table tennis club unfortunately, I was practicing Kanjis. Oh was it soo exciting. (sarcasm here) Luckily I now know where table tennis is being held, so next time I will be able to attend. I think there is some club that I want to attend going on tommorow, Ill have to check my schedule.
Only other moderately exciting thing I did today was take over the world in Civilization 3 as fascist Germany with a storm of panzers. It was pretty enjoyable. Due to my complete lack of a Navy, I was forced to use ICBM's to turn Russia's island continent into a horrible wasteland. They held on to the bitter end, I was forced to build a couple destroyers to take out their navy that kept on pestering my coastal cities. I was really having trouble getting my fringe cities to produce too much due to high corruption in my fascist government. Even with a full police department and extra enlisted police officers it was still pretty bad in parts. Not to mention my citizens getting pissed off that there were non-pure germans living in the conquered cities. Anyway, when it got down to myself and India, we had a standoff for about 20 years as we produced as much as we could, and I'm sure the Indian spies were stealing my technology. Eventually I sent Inida an ultimatum demanding all of their lesser technology and money each turn or else I would in the words of another evil leader, turn their country "into a lake of fire." They refused, and I was forced to unleash Deutschland's rage against them. I fired 17 ICBM's at them (They only had 15 cities, so I fired the last two at places that looked like they hadn't already been thouroghly destroyed.) After that, the storm of panzers mopped up the remnants, but was slowed because most of the Indian infrastructure was destroyed in the horrible Nuclear inferno.
Anyway, Civillization 3 is a fun game if you have time to blow. And you can make up fun alternate histories if you want.
One thing that really ticked me off in that game was that they put "Chairman Mao" as the leader of the Chinese. I cannot think of one person who I loathe more than Chairman Mao. What an unbelievable piece of shit. If they put him as the leader of the Chinese, they might as well put every other horrible dictator in place of catherine of russia, Otto von bismark of Germany, and Tokugawa of Japan. I guess they were more "culturally sensitive" in those cases. (I'm evidently running out of things to write about here)
Time to stop writing.
