I should probably start with an intro, but not at the beginning, somewhere else. I'm Dan, a D-List Super Villain, and I travel a lot. I'm a freelance information security consultant, who up until this week had three customers in 3 different countries - Switzerland, Saudi, and Singapore - apparently, I have a thing for countries that begin with S.
I jumped from satellite communications to network engineering to Information Security; this was more like a stroll than a jump because it was done over the span of about eight years. I wanted to be a hacker; I wanted to do red team testing, my favourite movie growing up was hackers (yeah I was that kid). I took the courses, studied the source material, gained some certifications, and it turned out I was awful, the blue team heard me coming a mile away, I was about as stealthy as a heard of buffalo. The red team lead, put me on team Delta, so the last people to ever get called up for a job. How could I do supervillain things, If I wasn't even able to get on the list? So I switched teams #GoBlue, and having spent some time on the red team, I understood attack methodologies even if I was terrible at them. So, Dan, a bad SuperVillain became an ok Network Defender, and thus the D-List Super Villain was born, so bad at being bad, that I was good.
My consulting gig with my Singapore customer has run its course, and it's time to say goodbye. The time zones, the flights, I've just crossed into my 40s, can I say I'm too old for this shit? It was time. I need to travel less. Singapore you were a blast, I had so much fun - breakfast with Orangutans, night safari's, Sentosa, Raffle's long bar (the home of the Singapore Sling), the ArtScience Museum in Marina Bay. The people that I have met and interacted with have been incredibly friendly and amazing. I couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome and introduction to your island.
This is not really goodbye Singapore, just until we meet again.
